Welcome to the Havering Languages site!

The London Borough of Havering boasts two very active Specialist Language Colleges (Gaynes School Language College and St.Edward's Language College) and another school with Languages as a second specialism (Hallmead School). The Language Colleges and the Local Authority are working hard to ensure that languages and global awareness are high on the agenda!

Havering is one of the largest of London's thirty three local authorities. There are over 243,000 inhabitants, and because it spans an area of 43 square miles on the borders of east London, the M25, Thurrock, Redbridge and Dagenham, it is home to a culturally and ethnically rich population.

Recent years have seen an increase in the range of demands with regards Languages, whether from children in our schools, the families of students, the needs of our local commerce and industry, languages for professional requirements, or simply for pleasure.

In Havering we believe that the ability to understand and communicate in another language is a lifelong skill for education, employment and leisure in this country and throughout the world. We are committed to supporting and enhancing the provision of languages in Havering.
